I am a big fan of downhill skiing, back-country skiing and camping, and in general being out in the ice and snow. Three years ago my father and I had the opportunity to go on a two-day hike across the Aletsch Glacier in Switzerland, which was quite a memorable experience.
Ice and Snow
Dangling from a rope in a crevasse (intentionally).
Same crevasse, different camera angle.
Me at the outset of the glacier trip, with the glacier in the background. When two (or three) glaciers merge, the debris they carry on their edges become stripes in the middle of the converged glacier.
With landscapes like this it’s hard to get a sense of scale. This looks like a puddle, but it’s a lake 20 feet wide, and maybe 100 feet long.
A 700 meter deep hole we crossed on a narrow ice bridge.

The best part of camping in the snow is digging snow caves to sleep in, and sunken snow kitchens to eat in and hang out in.
