A rapid prototype gives me tons of insight about aesthetics, mechanics and usability that a drawing or a mental model simply cannot. Prototypes of varying sophistication serve different purposes, as the following slides will show. Being able to test out concepts in this way makes for a more fluid design process and ultimately leads to more compelling final solutions.
